WV Birth to Three

WV Parent Training Information Center

West Virginia Parent Training Information Center (WVPTI) is an advocacy and training services group staffed by parents who have children with special needs. They provide information to families and professionals who work with children who have disabilities. WVPTI has fact sheets and other information on state and federal special education law, the IEP process, assistive technology, and inclusion. They can be reached by calling 1-800-281-1436, and their services are free of charge.

WV Preschool Special Education

Preschool Special Education Programming is offered by each county's school system in accordance with federal and state guidelines to eligible children ages three to five who have developmental delays or disabilities that qualify them for services. For additional information, contact your county's special education office or the WV Department of Special Education in Charleston at 1-800-642-8541.

Disability Rights of WV

Disability Rights of West Virginia is a state designated protection and advocacy program for West Virginians with disabilities. DRWV provides consultation and services on human and legal rights. WVU College of Law

WVU College of Law Child and Family Law Clinic provides legal assistance on a sliding fee scale to qualified children and families. They can assist with family law (i.e., matters of domestic violence, protection orders, adoption, custody, and guardianship matters), education law (i.e., special education and early intervention advocacy), housing (i.e., landlord-tenant issues, public housing problems), trust and estate law (i.e., special needs trusts and wills), and other legal issues that impact children and families. They primarily service Monongalia, Marion, Preston, Taylor, Barbour, Harrison, Randolph, Doddridge, Lewis, and Ritchie counties. For information, call (304) 293-6808.

Pace Enterprises

PACE Enterprises helps adults with disabilities obtain meaningful employment. When an individual with a disability comes to PACE, they are evaluated and counseled to determine their skills and career goals. Then, training is provided to polish the individual’s talents and overcome shortcomings. Finally, the individual is either introduced to a local employer with whom they have forged a long-term relationship with or is employed in one of PACE’s business endeavors.
